In Berg there is lots to do all year round with hunting and fi shing, as well as other cultural and open-air pursuits. There is a delightful combination of genuine mountain villages with modern mountain facilities and an agricultural landscape around Lake Storsjön along with beautiful beaches. The best known tourist destinations include Ljungdalen, Gräftåvallen/Bydalen and Klövsjö. If you are interested in fi shing you will certainly know about the Sölvbacka streams at Storsjö Kapell. Another little gem is Storhogna, which was named Sweden’s leading spa hotel in the World Travel Awards 2008.

Storsjö Monster and brain boxes
In Svenstavik
you can look forward to an experience that is really out of the ordinary. As well as enjoying good food and shopping you can have some really exciting experiences. How about go-karting on one of the best tracks in Sweden? Or exploring Sweden’s largest cleft cliff in Hoverberget within walking distance of the town centre. At the summit of the mountain you can take in the magnifi cent views whilst enjoying coffee and a snack. You now have the opportunity of trying new ways of searching for the Storsjö Monster. At the observation point in Svenstavik you can watch live footage of underwater activity in Lake Storsjön on TV monitors via a series of hi-tech underwater cameras. You could also visit the weapons smithy Bingstasmedjan, which is just one of the attractions in this land of the brain boxes.

Hackås
In the lovely village
of Hackås you can allow yourself to be enchanted by the magical music of the water sprites in the Billstaån River, or strike it rich at the Lillåkra trotting race track or just relax and enjoy the tranquillity of Hackås church, which dates from the 12th century. While you are near the church you should try to catch a glimpse of the Storsjö Monster, wander round the maritime museum or walk along the heritage trail. Try to make time to enjoy a meal at Strömbacka Kvarn, near the church, or to go for a swim as this is a great place to bathe.

Åsarna – Golden Village
In the summer
the village is a beautiful place to visit with a good range of accommodation and places to eat, a new roller rink, a beer and WC museum, as well as good service and a friendly atmosphere. The term “golden village” refers to the numerous international successes recorded by skiers from the Åsarna IK team since the 1970 world championships. Anna Olsson (née Dahlberg), Johan Olsson and Mats Larsson are the latest Olympic medallists. The Swedish skiing federation has ranked Åsarna IK as the best team in Sweden for several years. Obviously Åsarna offers excellent skiing in the winter along with dog-sledging and biathlon.

Highlights! Hoverberget, a mountain standing 548 metres above sea level. Sweden’s most complete arms smithy Bingstasmedjan. The Åsarna ski museum. Take your time over the only loo museum in Sweden or visit the unique beer museum. Relax at Storhogna Högsfjällshotell & SPA, the first spa in the northern mountains. Keep a look out for the Lake Storsjön monster from Hackås church or from the Hoverberget observation tower.
