Dorotea municipality stretches from the recently settled area in the south to the mountains in the north with easily accessible untamed countryside. You can experience nature and culture as well as finding fun activities for all the family. Go hiking, cycling or canoeing; there are lots of ways to head out into the mountains. You can also hire a car or take the bus to visit one of the great places nearby. Maybe you want to try some mountain fishing, or why not try panning for gold?
Discover Dorotea
GO FOR A WALK around Dorotea and visit the church, where you can see two statues by Carl Milles. The church itself was designed by his brother. Next to the church, there is a chapel, where a group of communicants is depicted. This life-sized sculpture is by Björn Martinius. Visit the Dorotea village area Kullerbacken with its heritage buildings. You should also see the old watermill, the Dorotea bear in Siberian larch by Lars Kupparin and the Dorotea stone in central Dorotea. Something else not to be missed is the Polar caravan museum. The Dorotea hunting and fishing museum with a nature room and the Elsa Mårtensson’s farm museum in Bellvik are also well worth visiting.
Small trips
TAKE YOUR TIME and hire a car to explore the villages: Bellvik with its farm museum, the Högland village area with its sawing site, the Risbäck area with its Lillmånke museum and Risbäck church, the oldest in the district, Borgafjäll Hotel designed by the world famous architect Ralph Erskine, Lappvallen, and Sutme Sami camps with relics of the Sami culture. Gaze in awe at the mountain Borgahällen, which has a near vertical descent of 800 metres into Lake Borgasjön.
Excursions for body and soul
GO HIKING along one of our trails or go cycling. There are lots of wonderful trails here. Hire a canoe at the campsite and try the “bear trail” where you could encounter elks, beavers and other animals. This is a wonderful experience of nature which is not too diffi cult. Try fi shing or swimming in one of our lakes teeming with fish. Bring the children along and visit Doro Camp, where you will find lots to do for young and old alike with a play area and mini golf. Have a good meal at Dorotea Hotell or Hotell Borgafjäll or relax with a cup of coffee at the patisserie Görans Konditori.
