Jokkmokk is not short of space. You will find experiences for mind and body that will continue to give you enjoyment long after you have returned home. Canoeing under the light of the Midnight Sun is ambrosia for the soul. If you want a little more speed and excitement, then try go-karting in Vuollerim. Laponia has been recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1996 because of its natural and cultural importance for all mankind. Laponia includes the Sarek, Padjelanta, Stora Sjöfallet and Muddus national parks as well as several nature reserves. We wish you a warm welcome.

Ájtte Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum
The Museum is
just five minutes’ walk from Inlandsbanan. You can find out about life and survival in Sápmi – the Samis’ land of marshes, forests and  mountains. Ájtte is of interest to visitors both large and small and there is something for everyone. Exhibitions cover themes such as clothing, silver, religion, myths and life in a world without roads. There is also a Laponia exhibition which has information about and offers an insight into the World Heritage Site. The Ájtte restaurant serves traditional home cooking and specialities from Lapland. There is also a shop selling literature, music, crafts and souvenirs. Open daily in the summer.
Activities for all the family
You don´t need
to do everything all at once. Maybe Mum will want to try her hand at fishing, while Dad wants to go canoeing and the children would like to go swimming in a heated pool. This is not a problem as there are lots of fun activities to try independently or with a knowledgeable guide. Shooting the rapids on the Pite or Pärl rivers, riding, walking along the new Kvarnsbäck trail and visiting the Husky kennels are just a few of the summer  activities on offer. The tourist information office can offer advice and recommendations to help you get the most from your stay.

Art and handicrafts
There are
many skilled craft artisans, photographers and artists in Jokkmokk. Some discovered this ideal location by chance, while others were born and grew up here. Some welcome visitors to studios in their own homes and there are also several handicrafts studios/shops to visit. Do not miss Jokkmokks Tenn, Gamla Apoteket and Hantverksbutiken. Sámi Duodji both exhibits and sells traditional and modern Sami handicrafts.

Not to be missed! Porjus – a charming town built around hydro-power and a gateway to the World Heritage Site of Laponia. There is lots to see and do here, including guided fishing trips, visits to the oldest power station on the Luleälven river, photo exhibitions with both the midnight sun and the northern lights or perhaps a round on the 9-hole golf course.
