Art and culture, nature and untamed landscapes, sun and wonderful beaches. Värmland offers quality of life in abundance. It is easy to be inspired by the magnificent natural scenery and heritage of the area around Kristinehamn, Storfors and Filipstad. This is also the starting point for Inlandsbanan. The world could benefit from spending more time in Värmland. Welcome!
Kristinehamn
ITS LOCATION on the shores of Lake Vänern means that Kristinehamn, the start or the end of Inlandsbanan, is a place you
look forward to visiting. This charming town, set amidst the archipelago is perfect for those looking for a relaxing break, as well as those who want a more active holiday. Island-hopping, excursions around the archipelago in the medieval-style ship Christine af Bro, top class art at Kristinehamn’s Art Museum, one of the largest Picasso sculptures in the world – these are just a few of the things you can see and do in Kristinehamn. If you prefer a bit more get up and go, then we have everything from music festivals to road racing in go-karts to tempt you. It is easy to fi nd your own sheltered cliff or bay, where you can watch the sun set over Lake Vänern in peace and quiet. We will give you memories to treasure long after your holiday is over.
Filipstad
“FILIPSTAD IS A SMALL TOWN, where the spirit of culture rules and where the smell of bread is a gourmet experience.” – These fine words were how Filipstad ambassador, author and inspiration Ewa Persson described “her” Filipstad. The municipality of Filipstad also has magnifi cent scenery and is an exciting meeting place for elves, trolls and the Värmland sense of fun. You can hear the tale of ironmaking and about life in a bygone age. The village farms and ironworks are open in the summer and invite you in to flea markets and musical evenings.
Storfors
IMAGES OF THE PROVINCE are dominated by the Bergslagsleden network of canals and natural waterways. Water has a special attraction for us and we are drawn to water for relaxation and recreation. The campsite Badsta Camping, which has its own stop on Inlandsbanan, is the obvious place to begin your exploration of Bergslagskanalen. Bergslagskanalen is one of the area’s best preserved links for transporting iron to Europe. The Bjurbäcken lock system, where a drop of 11km is negotiated via the three chambers and 3km of hand-dug canal, is one of our most popular visitor attractions.
