Strömsund is the second-largest population centre in Jämtland and is situated 100km north of Östersund and only 5km from the Ulriksfors stop. Rivers and streams rush down from the mountains through gentle valleys with fairytale forests and through lush agricultural villages. The area gained fame throughout Sweden as a result of Beppe Wolgers’ film Dunderklumpen. During your journey on Inlandsbanan you pass through the centre of Hoting, but you should make the time to visit other areas such as Hammerdal, Gäddede,
Backe and Rossön as well.

, which has one of Europe’s foremost collections with around 100 vintage cars and some 40 motor bikes. You can also visit a Shell garage from the 1950s. You will find the hotel Hoting Unlimited here offering accommodation, spa facilities, activities and homemade food in a peaceful, inspirational setting. You will be welcomed by Britt- Marie and her staff. You can visit an exhibition about prehistoric Hoting – Hoting Forntid – at the campsite and children can try quad-biking. Don’t miss the Hoting craft fair which runs from 25th June–3rd August.

THERE ARE LOTS
of places to visit if you are interested in local culture. There are interesting exhibitions at the local museum Strömsunds Hembygdsgård as well as the six-metre tall Jorm Giant from Swedish children’s film Dunderklumpen. The manor house Olympiagården in Hammerdal has an 18th century museum with superb antiquities. The village museum Lapplia Bygdemuseum, 5km west of Norråker, has the largest collection of old farming objects in the Norrland region. Cave paintings from four to five thousand years ago can be seen at Fångsjön, Brattforsen and Bofors. The Stone Age museum Rossöns Stenåldersmuseum has displays of stone-age exhibits.

The Beppe Museum
THE BEPPE MUSEUM
is at Öhn, 8km north-west of Strömsund. Beppe Wolgers’ daughter has set up exhibitions about his painting, writings, TV and radio work, children’s books, films and much more. Children can dress up, paint figures from the film Dunderklumpen and meet Beppe’s dolls and see the animals on the farm. Music and literary events are arranged on evenings in the summer. Another highlight is the Hällingsåfallet waterfall, 20km to the south of Gäddede, which has an impressive 43m drop. The 800m-long canyon is the longest water-filled canyon in northern Europe. It has to be seen. It is easy to hire a car in Strömsund to visit these sights.

 Not to be missed! The motor museum Hoting Bilmuseum with a unique collection of vintage cars including the “royal car”, Princess van den Plas, which was owned by the Swedish king Gustav VI Adolf. The collection of around 100 cars and 50 motor cycles is one of the best in Europe. There is also a 1950s café.
