BE INSPIRED
With our new package tour you can choose between hotel accommodation for 3, 5 or 7 nights for your journey on Inlandsbanan. This is a flexible option for those of you who want the security of pre-booking, whilst retaining the freedom to make your own choices. Here are a few suggestions for your journey.

THREE NIGHTS, THREE PLACES
If you want to go on a shorter journey and stay at comfortable hotels this is ideal. You could start your journey with Inlandsbanan from Mora, on the shores of lake Siljan. As the train leaves in the afternoon you would be able to spend some time in the town first. You arrive in Östersund in the evening and we suggest that you stay here for two nights. You stay at a lovely hotel and have plenty of time to explore this lively summer city. Jämtland’s county town has a large selection of shops and plenty of entertainment with lots of restaurants and pubs. There is also the prizewinning museum Jamtli, where you can meet people and see places from different centuries. Arctura, the restaurant with the panoramic views, and Peterson-Berger’s home on the island of Frösön are just two of the many places you could visit. Why not spend your third night in Gällivare. You could go on a reindeer safari or join a guided tour down into the underworld – LKAB’s mine is 1,000 metres below ground.

THREE-NIGHT FAMILY FAVOURITE
This is our suggestion for an actionpacked holiday for all the family. Begin your trip with a night in Östersund – the gateway to the mountains. Arrive early so you have time to do as much as possible. You have a superb choice of fun activities: the adventure facility on Frösöberget mountain, Multi Challenge with Boda Borg, Frösö Zoo and the Storsjöbadet water park. You spend your second night in Arvidsjaur, where you should take out an inspection trolley. A trip on the steam train is also a great idea if you are here on one of the days it operates. If you want to up the pace you could always try white-water rafting. The train continues north and Gällivare will be your next overnight stop. You could round off your evening with a trip up to the top of the Dundret mountain to experience the Midnight Sun. The following day you take the coach to Laponia to spend a few days hiking in the beautiful national parks. Padjelanta with its great hiking trails and the option of sleeping at the mountain station Saltoluokta is recommended for families looking for walks suitable for children. From here you can go on day trips or longer hikes staying in cabins along the trails.
Camping in a tent and cooking your own food – perhaps freshly caught char – appeals to most people. To travel home on Inlandsbanan you take the bus from Kvikkjokk to Jokkmokk to join the train.

FIVE NIGHTS AND THE WHOLE RAILWAY
This route, which takes you along the entire length of Inlandsbanan, begins in Kristinehamn with its beautiful archipelago. You spend your first night here and you should try to visit Ölme – an old-fashioned grocery store with real atmosphere – and the art museum. Perhaps go sailing on the boat Bojorten or enjoy an even faster trip round a go-karting track. The following night will be spent in Mora, where you can go on several excursions, for example to Nusnäs to see traditional Dalarna wooden horses being made. A visit to Father Christmas’s home at Tomteland is always much appreciated, as is a trip to the bear park Grönklitt in Orsa where you can see beasts of prey as well as the bears. Or why not get off the train before Mora and travel by inspection trolley for a bit. Your third overnight stay would be Östersund, where you can go in search of the Storsjö monster from steamboat S/S Thomée. You can combine cosy restaurant visits with some great shopping and fun activities. You spend your fourth night in Storuman. The town is beautifully situated and from Utsikten you can look out over mountain views stretching for many, many miles. The Luspholmarna islands in lake Storuman are classed as one of the best sights in Sweden according to the Michelin Guide. Your fifth and final night is in Gällivare. We recommend that you see the Midnight Sun from the top of the mountain Dundret. The following day, you could go underground on a tour of the LKAB or Aitik mine. You return home on  Inlandsbanan and your Inlandsbanan Card is still valid for a few more days.
